Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors Voting on Issue that will Reduce Pesticide Over-Use by County Departments
January 15, 2008 Issue: Contra Costa County Depts use over 15x more pesticides than all the Depts of Marin and San Francisco Counties combined. Our County Depts and Contractors spray over 20,000 pounds of pesticide products, not including rodent or mosquito pesticides, in public space including lawns, along 600 miles of roadsides, and into culverts and flood control channels. Many of the County bad actor pesticides used are known to cause cancer, hormone disruption, neurological or developmental/ reproductive damage and/or ground water contamination. Our community deserves at least the same protection as neighboring counties who prioritized using least toxic alternatives and eliminated bad actor pesticides. Action: Attend and Show Support at this Important Meeting where Your
Presence will Impact the Decision of the Board of Supervisors to Take the First Step
to Protect People and Environment from Over-Use of Toxic Pesticides. Contact your
District Supervisor as Listed on Website below and Ask for their Vote to Hire a Full-Time
IPM Coordinator, in the County Administrators’ Office to Provide Authority and to adopt
an ordinance (law) for accountability. Location: 651 Pine Street, Martinez CA, County Admin. Bldg RSVP and Contact: Parents for a Safer Environment,
